Global Labour Column - Light in Our Minds - Fire in Our Hearts

Date Released: 02 December 2013

In this Global Labour Column, the focus is on a farewell speech made by Vasco Pedrina at the Building & Wood Workers’ International (BWI) World Congress.

He argues that, under the current economic and political environment dominated by neoliberal policies, there is a need for activist to arm themselves “with a vision and a programme for an alternative globalisation, based on equality, social justice and sustainable development.” This would involve “fostering the emergence of a new generation of young trade unionists” who are interested in international struggles and building solidarity with strong grass root movements fighting the neoliberal onslaught. Vasco Pedrina is the BWI Vice President for Europe.
