Public sector workers strike in Northern Ireland

Date Released: 13 March 2015

Public sector workers from across Northern Ireland are on strike today (Friday, 13th March) demanding the shelving of planned cuts that will damage vital services and result in 20,000 job losses.

Rallies are being held cities and towns across Northern Ireland at which members of the public and workers are demanding that public services and jobs are protected.

Workers in transportation, education, road services, fire and rescue and health services joined the 24-hour stoppage, which began at just after midnight this morning.

The strike was organised by the Northern Ireland Committee of ICTU and involves SIPTU members in the library service.
