Date Released: 10 October 2013
A world renowned Welsh male choir is among the acts appearing in the Banding Together concert in Liberty Hall Dublin, tonight (Thursday, 10th October), starting at 7.30 p.m.
The Côr Meibion Onllwyn - Onllwyn Male Voice Choir will be accompanied by the RMT Brass Brass Band in this musical celebration of trade unionism. Also singing songs from the period of the 1913 Lockout will be Francis Devine and Fergus Russell.
The concert commemorates the support provided to Dublin workers and their families by the British Trade union movement during the 1913 Lockout.
Concert MC, Francis Devine, said: “Welsh Male Voice Choir and Colliery Bands are central elements of British working class musical culture. In acknowledging British working class support for the 1913 Dublin Lockout what better way than provide a platform in Liberty Hall – long the central stage for Irish working class artistic expression- to two of the finest exponents of working class musical culture.”
The Côr Meibion Onllwyn - Onllwyn Male Voice Choir has performed in America, the West Indies, Italy, France and, most famously, at the Paul Robeson Memorial Concert at Carnegie Hall, New York, in 1998.
Tickets for Banding Together will be available from the Liberty Hall box office this evening before the performance. Ticket price €10.
