SIPTU welcomes deferral of Dublin ambulance service review

Date Released: 07 April 2014

SIPTU has welcomed the announcement today (Monday, 7th April) of the deferral of the proposed Health Service Executive (HSE) and Dublin City Council review of the ambulance service in the city.

SIPTU Organiser, Brendan O’Brien: “Our members in Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) Ambulance Service have welcomed today’s announcement by the City Council that it will not be proceeding with its proposed review, pending the outcome of a national capacity review of the service announced recently by the HSE.

“This decision vindicates the position taken by SIPTU and IMPACT, which was supported by the elected representatives of both Dublin City Council and South Dublin County Council, that the review should be suspended until a fuller picture of ambulance provision across the country was available.”

He added: “It is important that the campaign for the retention of the DFB Ambulance Service continues. We believe continuing this service is in the best interests of the citizens of Dublin. We are also reiterating our call for any review of the service to include stakeholder representation as well as persons with fire based expertise.”
