A dispute resulting from a unilateral action by management at Bord na Móna to remove eight workers from the company payroll will be the subject of a Labour Court hearing on Wednesday (16th April).
The referral of the dispute to the Labour Court follows a conciliation hearing at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) on Thursday (10th April) at which no progress was made in reaching a resolution.
SIPTU Organiser, John Regan, said: “For several months the Bord na Móna Group of Unions has been engaged with management concerning a dispute surrounding an attempt to implement pay cuts, reduce the workforce by 117 and implement change to work practices.
“Management recently informed the Group of Unions that it was going ahead with the de-manning of one section of the company. The unions responded by informing management that there was no agreement on this process and if it went ahead with this unilateral action it would be in breach of procedures and have serious consequences.”
He added: “A General Meeting of all union members in Bord na Móna to discuss the situation had been scheduled for yesterday (Thursday, 10th April) but this was deferred following the agreement of management to attend the conciliation meeting at the LRC. A General Meeting of members will now be held in the coming weeks to discuss what actions will be taken if this dispute is not resolved in a satisfactory manner.”
