SIPTU members at the All-Tex Recyclers plant in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, have expressed shock at a management decision to sent its 140 staff home on Thursday (23rd October) with no notice.
SIPTU Organiser, Niall McNally, said: “Our members are shocked at this announcement. They arrived at work today as normal. However, they were informed during the morning by management that they were to be sent home after an inspection by the NIHSE. They have not been informed when they will be returning to work”.
He added: “This is a profitable and growing company due to our members hard work. A general meeting of the recently organised 105 SIPTU members affected will be held on Friday, 24th October. Following this, SIPTU representatives will seek an urgent meeting with the employer”.
All-Tex Recyclers is a leading supplier, processor and exporter of used clothing, textiles and footwear.
The recycling plant employs approximately 140 workers the majority of whom joined SIPTU about five weeks ago. SIPTU is currently seeking recognition from the employer with no response to date.
