SIPTU will host a Polish Cultural Night in the Liberty Hall Auditorium on the 26th March 2015 to mark the PolskaÉire Festival.
Speaking today at the launch of PolskaÉire Festival, in the Aviva Stadium, Minister of State for New Communities, Culture and Equality, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin said: “I am delighted with the PolskaÉire 2015 festival programme, and am looking forward to SIPTU’s Polish Cultural Night. I hope that it encourages a broader discussion on the issues relating to the rights of our new communities working in Ireland.”
SIPTU National Campaigns and Equality Organiser, Ethel Buckley said SIPTU is proud to play a leading role in the PolskaÉire 2015 festival.“There are over 7,000 Polish SIPTU members and our particular role in the festival will focus on the workplace realities Polish workers living and working in Ireland face every day.”
“We are delighted that the incoming Polish Ambassador, Ryszard Sarkowicz, has chosen Liberty Hall for one of his first public speaking engagements. It is fitting recognition of the migration experience of tens of thousands of Polish workers who have come to Ireland in search of work and a better life for their families.”
John Delaney, Football Association of Ireland CEO said: “Polish people make a huge contribution to our society and this festival which encompasses musical, cultural and sporting connections will provide a platform to showcase the close relationship that has developed between our countries, particularly over the last ten years”
Barnaba Dorda, SIPTU Polish Network Member said the union’s participation and recognition of Polish workers has been well received across the Polish community living and working in Ireland.“SIPTU has organised for Polish food to be served and Polish folk music to be played. On the night we will have a special appearance from Supertonic Orchestra, speeches from Polish workers and leaders and an exhibition from the Polish Scouting Association of Ireland. It is very exciting.”SIPTU Polish Cultural Night is supported by Forum Polonia and will be broadcast live on Polish Community Radio PLK FM.
