SIPTU representatives are seeking an urgent meeting with the management of Ladbrokes Ireland to discuss the implications of the bookmaker being placed into examinership after an application to the High Court today (Tuesday, 21st April).
SIPTU Sector Organiser, Denis Hynes, said: “Through initial contacts with the company we have been informed that it has been requested to draw up a cost savings plan to present to the interim examiner. This is likely to include consideration of the future operation of up to 60 shops out of the 196 operated by the company in the Republic of Ireland.
“SIPTU has requested an urgent meeting with management to discuss what impact this will have on our members employed by the company. A meeting of all shop stewards in the company is also being organised to discuss the situation and what actions our members may wish to take in response to future developments.”
SIPTU represents approximately 280 workers in Ladbrokes Ireland.
