SIPTU has called on the management of C&C Gleeson to meet with union representatives and begin a process of engagement relating to a proposed restructuring of the drinks company which could result in up to 25 job losses.
SIPTU Organiser, Terry Bryan, said: “Management recently announced that it plans to restructure the sales, depot administration, commercial support and depot operation elements of its business across the country. We understand that this process could result in up to 25 job losses.
“This news is very worrying for the workers involved and their families. They are very concerned with the lack of clarity and information from the management in relation to the rationale for the job losses as well as the terms on offer for those affected.
“SIPTU is calling on the management to engage in meaningful dialogue to minimise the impact of its restructuring plan on our members and try to reduce the number of job losses. So far, management has refused to engage with SIPTU on these proposed collective redundancies. This position is not acceptable to our members who are calling on the company to directly engage with their union."
He added: “The company has two manufacturing facilities in County Tipperary, one at Borrisoleigh, which produces Tipperary Water, and the other in Clonmel, producing Bulmers. At both these plants the company recognises and negotiates collectively with the union.
“The jobs that are targeted in this restructuring are on the commercial sales side of its business where the workers affected are employed in depots and offices throughout the country.”
