SIPTU and Celtic Linen Ltd enter LRC talks concerning possible job losses

Date Released: 09 July 2015

SIPTU has entered into talks at the Labour Relation Commission (LRC) with the management of Celtic Linen Ltd concerning plans to implement up to 62 job losses at the company, which is headquartered in Drinagh, County Wexford.

SIPTU Organiser, Peader Nolan, said: “On Tuesday (7th July) the company announced it intended to implement a major restructuring of its operations at its headquarters in county Wexford and depots which are located in Dublin, Cork and Ballinasloe, County Galway. This plan envisages up to 62 redundancies and includes the outsourcing of the company’s distribution section.

“SIPTU and the company have agreed to enter into a consultation process concerning this plan under the auspices of the LRC. The union intends to use this process to explore all possibilities to limit the impact on our members with particular focus on jobs being retained. If redundancies are to be implemented the aim is that they are on a voluntary basis.”

He added: “While our members recognise the need to address the difficulties that confront Celtic Linen Ltd, our priority is to protect the jobs and terms of employment of our members during any restructuring process. The aim of the LRC process is to agree a plan which maintains the operation of the business as a viable concern while ensuring the maximum number of jobs are saved.”
