Date Released: 10 March 2016
SIPTU LUAS drivers have today (Thursday, 10th March) served notice on their employer, Transdev, of two further 48-hour work stoppages following the company’s refusal to engage in negotiations concerning their terms and conditions of employment.
The two further 48-hour work stoppages will take place on Saturday, 2nd April, and Sunday, 3rd April, and on Saturday, April 23rd, and Sunday, April 24th.
SIPTU Divisional Organiser, Owen Reidy, said: “Despite LUAS Drivers substantially moderating their pay claim, Transdev is refusing to engage in negotiations. This situation, where an employer is treating workers with such disrespect, leaves them with no option but to escalate their industrial action.”
He added: “This exclusion of the LUAS drivers from the negotiation process must end. The company is acting in an unacceptable manner towards this grade of workers. SIPTU representatives will be attending talks tomorrow (Friday, 11th March) at the Workplace Relations Commission in relation to pay claims by other grades of staff at LUAS.”
These new work stoppages are in addition to industrial action already scheduled for 17th March, 27th March and 28th March.
