SIPTU members in the rail and road transport division of Bord na Móna (BNM) are to commence a ballot for industrial action in a dispute concerning the imposition of a unilateral pay cut by management.
Bord na Móna Group of Unions Secretary and SIPTU Organiser, John Regan, said: “At a general meeting of our members in the rail and road transport division last night (Monday, 18th July) it was decided to commence a ballot for industrial action in the coming days. This follows the unilateral imposition of a pay cut by management which resulted in our members’ wages being reduced by up to €110 a week.
“A vote in favour of industrial action will result in members implementing a work to rule, a ban on overtime and providing no co-operation with any changes to work practices. A decision was also taken to proceed with a protective ballot for strike action.”
He added: “This will seek authorisation for an immediate response to any attempt by management to apply pressure on other workers to carry out the duties of our members or otherwise compensate for any short fall in operations due to their industrial action.
“Such actions by management would represent an escalation of the dispute triggering an all-out strike by our members in the rail and road transport division.”
