SIPTU members in the Cork Association for Autism (CAA) have condemned the refusal of management to attend a conciliation conference at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) to discuss a dispute concerning a unilateral change their to terms and conditions of employment.
SIPTU Organiser, Sharon Cregan said: “I wrote to management on a number of occasions requesting a meeting to discuss the issues in dispute. However, management refused to meet with the workers’ representatives to discuss its decision to implement changes to its employees’ terms and conditions without consultation, discussion or agreement.
“The dispute was then referred by our members to the WRC. However, management has declined an invitation from the WRC to attend a conciliation conference.”
She added: “At the centre of the dispute is a unilateral change to the process by which workers take annual leave in the organisation. The imposition of this unilateral change has resulted in major disruption to our members and eroded their overall leave entitlements.
“It is unacceptable that an organisation which is supported with public funds is refusing to utilise the official industrial relations mechanisms of the State. If the management of CAA maintains this position our members will have no alternative but to consider a ballot for industrial action.”
