SIPTU representatives to attend WRC to discuss St Aidan’s Services dispute

Date Released: 11 August 2016

SIPTU representatives will attend the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) today (Thursday, August 11th) to discuss the dispute in St Aidan’s Services, Gorey, Co. Wexford over the non-payment of increments due to care workers.

SIPTU Health Divisional Organiser, Paul Bell said: “SIPTU representatives have accepted an invitation for talks at the WRC. However, it will be a very short meeting if the employer simply restates a position and attempts to put our members through the motions again. What SIPTU members clearly expect is that the employer puts forward concrete proposals to end this dispute fairly and conclusively.”

“Our members don’t want to be involved in work stoppages. They want to get on with the job of caring for people that need to be cared for in the community. We are resolute in supporting our members and ending this dispute by achieving a favourable and satisfactory outcome.”

He added: “The action our members took today in St Aidan’s sends a clear message to all workers in Section 38 and 39 organisations who provide care and health services on behalf of the Health Service Executive (HSE). SIPTU representatives will do whatever is necessary to support Section 38 and 39 workers until they enjoy full parity of esteem with all HSE workers.”
