Following a meeting of SIPTU Dublin Bus Traffic Representatives to discuss the recent developments in the long running dispute about the Dublin Bus Cost Reduction proposals, a notice was sent to SIPTU members in the Traffic Section of Dublin Bus on 30th October, 2013. The recent developments included issues such as; The company statement that they intend to implement the proposals that were rejected by SIPTU members on a 51% versus 49% margin (originally proposals were rejected by 94% of SIPTU members. The acceptance of the proposals by Traffic members of the other Trade Union by 60% of their members. The concerns that disunity amongst Traffic employees now possibly prevails and that unity is utmost in any campaign against cuts to conditions, subvention, and to privatisation. Athough the mandate for Strike action is still valid and will be activated if required, the Traffic Representatives Committee of SIPTU has decided that it would be appropriate to reaffirm that mandate due to the changed and seriousness nature of the circumstances that are now in existence. The company have informed this Union that they intend to implement the Cost Reduction Proposals from Sunday, 17th November next. Hence a ballot on taking strike action in the event that Dublin Bus implements the proposals will take place on Tuesday, 5th and Wednesday, 6thNovember, 2013 in all garages. (Time to be advertised locally in advance). (Please note, a rejection of a mandate to take strike action will mean the company will implement the changes, on the 17th November next, and no dispute will take place.)
