SIPTU representatives have committed to attending Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) talks following the collapse of a mediation process at the Becton Dickinson plant in Drogheda, County Louth, that was aimed at achieving a fair redundancy package for the over 200 people who will lose their jobs as the facility ceases production by September 2026.

SIPTU Sector Organiser, Andrea Cleere, said: “SIPTU representatives engaged in the mediation process alongside other workers. Unfortunately, it was not possible for a consensus to be reached regarding the severance terms which would apply to all workers when compulsory redundancies come into effect in March 2025 and September 2026.

She added: “SIPTU representatives will consider all options in pursuit of a fair settlement to this dispute. Becton Dickinson management previously referred the matter for conciliation under the auspices of the Workplace Relations Commission. We are willing to engage in this process as we seek a resolution to this dispute which is acceptable to our members.”
