SIPTU members in Bus Éireann this week began voting on strike action in response to a threat by management to impose unilateral changes to the pay and conditions of workers. The ballot will be concluded with a count of the votes in Liberty Hall on Thursday, 16th May. SIPTU Sector Organiser, Willie Noone, said: “Workers at Bus Éireann have been left with no option but to ballot on strike action. Staff in Bus Éireann are furious at the company's announcement that it is pressing ahead with cutbacks, which had previously been rejected by workers.” On Wednesday, 30th April, management at the semi-state transport company announced that it intended to introduce reductions in overtime shift and premium payments, and reductions in leave without agreement with workers. Strike action at Bus Éireann by SIPTU will include all union members apart from those operating school bus services.
