Negotiations between trade union representatives and management of Bausch and Lomb concerning the company’s contact lens manufacturing plant in Waterford concluded this morning (Thursday, 12th June) without agreement. SIPTU Organiser, Alan O’Leary, said: "It was not possible for the Labour Relations Commission, which was facilitating the talks, to present an agreed set of proposals to union representatives.“The Labour Relations Commission will provide the unions with the final position of the management in writing. As soon as the document becomes available it will be circulated to members.” A general meeting for all SIPTU members in the Waterford Plant will be held this evening at 7.00 p.m. in the workplace canteen.
