The Bord na Móna Group of Unions has informed the company that it intends to recommend a motion of no confidence in the Bord of the semi-state enterprise to its members if a threat to implement compulsory redundancies is not rescinded. Bord na Móna Group of Unions Secretary and SIPTU Organiser, John Regan, said: “We have written to the company to inform it that unless a threat to implement compulsory redundancies at ANUA, a wholly owned subsidiary company of Bord na Móna, is removed we will be recommending that our members support a motion of no confidence in the Bord.“It is unprecedented for compulsory redundancies to be implemented in a semi-state enterprise. Bord na Móna is a profitable company. We have told the company that we will require the unequivocal removal in writing of the threat of compulsory redundancies before our next general meeting on Thursday, 20th August, or a motion of no confidence in the Bord will be recommended to our full membership across the Bord na Móna Group.”Unite the Union Official, Ed Thompson, said: “The implementation of compulsory redundancies at ANUA would be an unprecedented move in the history of semi-state enterprises in Ireland. As such it is totally unacceptable to our members. In the event that the company was to move unilaterally and impose compulsory redundancies prior to our general meeting, our members will have to consider a response to this action in its own right.”Bord na Móna Environmental Ltd trading as ANUA is a subsidiary company focused on the provision of water and air treatment systems.
