SIPTU Nursing members are continuing a campaign of highlighting and putting pressure on the HSE and Department of Health to address staffing deficits in Mental Health Services.

The Union is continuing to argue for full-time contracts to be given to graduate nurses. SIPTU representatives are also engaging with the HSE on the current overall staffing issues in Mental Health Services which is impacting vulnerable clients and staff.

Members are encouraged to engage with their local Shop Steward or SIPTU on issues of concern regarding staffing in their workplace. Local information regarding staffing deficits will be crucial in assisting the Union raise any concerns regarding staffing within the national process.

In recent years SIPTU representatives have been successful in raising the issues of staffing deficits and have secured improvements, such as a process which resulted in an additional allocation of staff in areas such as the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
