Talks between SIPTU representatives and officials from the Department of Social Protection have begun for a new pay agreement for members employed in the Rural Social Scheme, Tús, Job Initiative and as Community Employment Supervisors.
SIPTU Organiser, Peter O’Brien, said: “Recent years have seen a major organising campaign by SIPTU for members in these organisations with large public meetings of up to 600 people around the country. In early 2023, our members lodged a pay claim in line with the Building Momentum public sector pay agreement. This resulted in a 5% pay increase being accepted in a ballot in April 2023.
“Before this workers in these organisations did not receive a pay increase for more than 14 years. This was despite the valuable role they play in society providing community schemes such as Meals on Wheels, local sports clubs and drug rehabilitation.
