SIPTU TEAC Division Organiser, Adrian Kane, said: “The devastating war on Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 26,000 of people, the majority of them children and women. It has injured tens of thousands more. Our banner seeks to demonstrate the strength of support of the people of Ireland, and in particular Cork, for an immediate ceasefire and highlight the urgent need to tackle what is now a humanitarian catastrophe.”
He added: “Our union supports the recognition of a Palestinian State and the campaign of Boycott, Disinvestment and Sanctions on Israel to pressure it to comply with international law and respect the rights of the Palestinian people.”
At today’s unveiling of the banner were representatives of the Cork Council of Trade Unions, the Cork Branch of the Ireland Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, IFTU and Fórsa
