A banner calling for a ‘CEASEFIRE NOW’ has been raised on Liberty Hall, Dublin, to reflect the full support of SIPTU and the vast majority of the public in Ireland for an immediate halt to the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, the West Bank and Israel. SIPTU General Secretary, Joe Cunningham, said: “The devastating war on Gaza has claimed the lives of more than 22,000 of people, the majority of them children and women, has injured almost 60,000 while essential food and medical aid continues to be obstructed. Our banner seeks to demonstrate the strength of support of the people of Ireland for a ceasefire and highlight the urgent need to tackle what is now a humanitarian catastrophe.” SIPTU, Ireland's largest trade union, passed a motion endorsing a ceasefire at its recent Biennial Delegate Conference in Galway in November, 2023.
