Striking Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann workers led the Dublin Council of Trade Unions annual May Day march through Dublin city centre on Friday, 1st May. Approximately 100 bus workers in uniform led the march from Parnell Square to Liberty Hall. SIPTU members carried historic ITGWU banners featuring images of the trade union leaders Jim Larkin and James Connolly as well as of the 1913 Lockout.Outside Liberty Hall representatives of the striking bus workers, Dunnes Stores workers and trade union leaders addressed the crowd.The rally was followed by a ‘Workers’ Festival’ in the Liberty Hall bar. Organised by the SIPTU Dublin District Council (DDC) the festival included performances of working class ballads and traditional music. Along with colourful trade union delegations activists from the Spectacle of Defiance, Right2Water and We’re Not Leaving groups also participated in the march.
