I was deeply saddened to hear today of the passing of my friend and former colleague Patsy Cronin. I had the great privilege of working with Patsy when I was a trade union official in Kerry and we have been friends ever since. He is someone whose opinion I have always valued and I will miss him. Patsy gave enormous service to the trade union movement, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sector. Thousands of SIPTU and ITGWU members would have benefitted from the deals he hammered out with employers on wages, holiday pay and better conditions during his three decades of service. He was also extremely active in local community affairs and always gave generously of both his time and considerable expertise to a diverse range of organisations all aimed at improving life for members of the community.Patsy will be greatly missed by friends and colleagues in Killorglin and beyond. My deepest sympathies go to his wife Mary Jo and their children Marette and Tim.
