A meeting of SIPTU ‘Yes Equality’ held in Liberty Hall on Tuesday, 5th May, heard about the success of the introduction of marriage equality in Denmark and the need to maintain the momentum of the ‘Yes’ campaign. Among those addressing the meeting was Human Rights Watch LGBT Advocacy Director, Boris Dittrich.He outlined the success of marriage equality in other European states that had introduced it. He said: "Many of those in Denmark who were fearful of marriage equality before it was introduced now wonder why they were afraid."Minister of State, Aodhán Ó Ríordáin, told the meeting that the marriage equality referendum “has captured the imagination of lots of people never involved in campaigning before.” He added that the momentum of the campaign needed to be maintained and if “the referendum passes, it's going to be a great, great day.”
