SIPTU members in Greyhound Recycling and Recovery, who have been locked out of their jobs for more than two months, have received gift vouchers for stores with unionsied workforces and a €10,000 donation for their support fund. SIPTU Organiser, Henry O’Shea, said: “There is growing support from the trade union movement and beyond for these workers in their struggle to be treated fairly by their employer. In an indication of the great support the men are receiving, last Friday (15th August), TEEU General Secretary, Eamon Devoy, contributed €10,000 on behalf of his union to the SIPTU Greyhound Workers' Support Fund.“Mandate trade union has also organised for the workers to receive gift cards for groceries and school clothes. In a very kind gesture the manager of the Supervalu store in Blackrock, Neville Raethorne, made an additional contribution to the gift cards which is greatly appreciated by the workers. Supervalu is a fully unionised supermarket chain and we encourage all trade union members to shop in union friendly stores”.Folk singer, Christy Moore, pledged his support to the locked out men at a concert for the Greyhound workers in Liberty Hall, Dublin, on Saturday (16th August) night.At the event, Christy Moore, said he intended to visit the Greyhound picket line and praised the workers for the resilience they have shown in their struggle for justice. Blues musician Don Baker also preformed at the concert along with singer Eric Fleming.The Greyhound workers have been locked out at the west Dublin based waste disposal company since 17th June. Management at the company is attempting to force workers to accept wage cuts of up to 35% and has employed strikebreakers to carry out waste collections during the dispute. SIPTU has 80 members in the company which has a contract to collect household waste for Dublin City Council.
