Labour historian, Francie Devine, will deliver a lecture on the history of the dock workers and their trade unions in the Sean O’Casey Community Centre, St Mary’s Road, East Wall, on Saturday, 23rd February, at 2.00 p.m. In his talk, Devine will cover the history of Dublin dockers and seamen, from their earliest organisations, though the turmoil of the 1913 Lockout and into the 21st century. The talk will be followed by a ‘Songs from the Docks’, where Paul O’Brien and guests will sing the songs of those who lived, worked and struggled on the docks, and the communities that grew up around them. There will also be an opportunity for others to share their own stories, songs and memories of unions, strikes and working on the docks. All are welcome to participate in these free events.
