The Musicians Union of Ireland (MUI) is calling on its members to attend a protest in support of the call for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held by Israel in 2019, which will take place outside of RTÉ Studios in Donnybrook, Dublin 4, tomorrow (Friday, 8th March) at 1.00 p.m. MUI Organiser, Graham Macken, said: “At the MUI Annual General Meeting a motion was passed which states that, ‘the MUI calls on our members to support the Palestinian call for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest to be hosted by Israel in 2019’. In doing this we are supporting the position of several prominent Palestinian organisations who have asked the international community to boycott the competition this year. “In adherence with this motion, MUI members have decided to join the protest arranged by the Irish Palestine Solidarity Campaign scheduled for tomorrow at lunchtime outside of the RTÉ Studios in Donnybrook, Dublin.” He added: “The RTÉ Director General agreed a conscience clause for staff last year, which confirms that there will be no sanction placed on any member of staff who does not wish to travel to Israel for the Eurovision Song Contest.”
