SIPTU members in Kilkenny College and the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland have recently voted to accept pay deals which will see significant rises in their earnings.

In Kilkenny College, members voted to accept a Workplace Relations Commission proposal of a 10% increase to be applied to hourly pay rates over a 21-month period commencing 1st April 2023 and ending on 1st January 2025. The breakdown of the increases are 6.5% from 1st April 2023, with a further 3.5% from 1st April 2024 to 1st January 2025. A €200 tax-free voucher will be paid on 1st October 2024 to all those in employment on that date.

SIPTU Education, Health and IFUT representatives engaged in discussions with the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland on behalf of our combined membership. Following a conciliation process, pay proposals were put to a ballot of union members, with 98% of SIPTU Education Sector members voting in favour.

The agreement provides for a pay increase of a minimum of 9% (3% per annum) over the next three years, with a higher increase in year one for those on less than €50,000 per annum to the value of €1500. Also included is a tax-free voucher for €1000 to be issued in year one, an increase in the bereavement leave scheme and the introduction of up to four days of service leave.

SIPTU Education Sector Organiser, Karl Byrne, said: “The SIPTU Education Sector continues to secure good pay rises for members in workplaces across the country. Our ability to secure these is assisted by growing our membership. All members should ask their colleagues are they part of the Union, and if not encourage them to join”.
