Dublin Port Company (DPC) has introduced a mandatory Health and Safety and security requirement called the Dublin Port Pass, for all port employees, tenants, contractors and visitors who require access to the Common User Areas in Dublin Port.
The Dublin Port Pass induction courses have been designed as part of DPC’s commitment to safety. Port Users are required to complete the relevant online training module and on successful completion of the Dublin Port Pass you will be eligible to apply for a Dublin Port Access Control Card, which allows users access to designated and restricted areas.
In Warrenpoint Port all employees, contractors and visitors to work areas are required to complete a general induction to the site. This online safety induction programme is aimed at ensuring all personal entering Warrenpoint Port have the minimum requirement Health and Safety knowledge when either visiting or working on the site.
SIPTU Organiser, Fran McDonnell, said: “SIPTU campaigned at Government level for the introduction of this type of minimum safety training and awareness within all port and dock locations. While we welcome these developments in both Dublin and Warrenpoint, we continued to work to ensure a standardised safety training requirement is introduced in all locations. The best way to achieve this objective is by ensuring workers are organised within our Union and that safety in the workplace is a priority in all negotiations with employers.”
He added: “SIPTU intends to re-double our efforts in this regard over the coming months in all locations and we need your support in this vital campaign. We ask members to highlight this campaign in their workplaces, distribute this article to colleagues and encourage all workers to get organised in SIPTU. Together we can improve not only the terms and conditions of all port workers but also improve their safety in the workplace.”
