On Wednesday, 2nd October, SIPTU Health Division representatives and the INMO addressed the Joint Oireachtas Health Committee regarding staffing levels in the HSE.

SIPTU’s submission to the Committee focused on:

  • Making the case for a safe staffing framework that would encompass all grades of staff in the health service.
  • Making the case for appropriate staffing that can deal with the continued expansion in services.
  • Raising concerns and highlighting the impact the Pay and Numbers Strategy is having on staffing levels and services across the health service.
  • The results and context of the recent ‘Staff Our Services’ survey that SIPTU conducted amongst our members in the public service.

The Union shared data with the Committee highlighting the staffing deficits in the health service in a multitude of grades across our Support, Allied Health Professionals, Care, Care ID, Nursing and Ambulance sectors.
