SIPTU calls for review of protections from violence and aggression in the workplace

The SIPTU National Delegate Biennial Conference has called for a review of protections for workers from violence and aggression in the workplace. SIPTU Health Division Organiser, Paul Bell, said: “Delegates voted unanimously to support a motion calling for a comprehensive review of policies designed to protect staff experiencing violence and aggression in the workplace. This review must consider if the necessary deterrents, protections and support for staff are in place and suitable to meet their needs.” SIPTU Health activist, Donie Doody, said: “Health workers are particularly vulnerable to violence and aggression in the workplace. The evidence of increasing attacks on workers in this sector is stark.  “As part of a review of protections for workers the Minister for Health, Leo Varadkar, must commit to taking the necessary steps to ensure that health workers feel safe and protected in their workplace.” The SIPTU Biennial National Delegate Conference is taking place in City Hall, Cork, from Monday, 5th October to Thursday, 8th October. The conference is debating motions on the economy, the housing crisis, health, pensions, public transport and international issues among others.
