SIPTU representatives have expressed dismay at the announcement today (Wednesday, 6th June) by Aer Árann that it is to terminate its Public Service Obligation (PSO) contract to operate flights to the Aran Islands in December 2018. SIPTU Organiser, Tony Carroll, said: “This announcement gravely concerns our members employed in Aer Árann and in the airports on the Islands. Our members are calling on all parties in this matter to come together to resolve this dispute and continue to provide these essential air services to the communities on the Islands. “This air service is of vital importance to the economy of the Islands and the viability of the Aer Árann which underpins the job security of our members in the airline and the airports on the Islands.” SIPTU represents 20 members employed by Aer Árann and at the airports on the Islands.
