SIPTU has criticised the decision by the management of Lufthansa Technik Airmotive Ireland to serve redundancy notices on its workers today (Friday, 20th December) while negotiations at the Labour Court on redundancy terms were ongoing. SIPTU Organiser, Karl Byrne, said: “Although this news is not unexpected following the announcement in November that the company was entering a 30 day consultation process in relation to the future of its plant in Rathcoole, Co. Dublin, it is still a devastating blow to the workers and their families.“Now that the future of the plant has unfortunately been decided, SIPTU is committed to securing the best possible redundancy terms for these workers and to resolve any outstanding issues in relation to the company’s pension scheme.”He added: “The Labour Court is fast tracking its discussions and a recommendation will be issued as soon as possible. We hope that all sides will respect the industrial relations process and that the affected workers can be provided with certainty in relation to their redundancy terms. This highly skilled workforce has been loyal to this company for many years. They deserve to be treated with respect and gratitude.”
