Adrian Kane, Sector Organiser for the Insurance and Finance Sector of SIPTU, has said that the killing of a Garda and the armed robbery at the Lordship Credit Union, Bellurgan, Jenkinstown, County Louth on (Friday 25th January) was a particularly heinous act. SIPTU represents thousands of workers in the Credit Union sector. “This was not alone an attack on the Garda but on the State and our society. Our sympathies are with the family of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, his colleagues and the workers in Lordship Credit Union who had to endure a heinous act of violence.“The murder and robbery in Bellurgan symbolised an attack on the community in a profound way – not only through the murder of Detective Garda Donohoe, but also through the very target of the raid itself, the local Credit Union.“An attack on the Credit Union was essentially an attack on ordinary working families throughout the country.  The local Credit Union symbolises the efforts of local people to combine their financial resources to benefit the community as a whole. The callous killing of Detective Garda Donohue and the raid on the credit union must be condemned by all decent citizens of this country.
