SIPTU representatives decided on Wednesday, 13th April, to defer industrial action at LISK Ireland in Gort, Co. Galway, which was scheduled for Thursday 14th April. The move is in response to engagement at local level that has resulted in an offer of improved pay and sick pay for the workers at the company. SIPTU Sector Organiser, Neil McGowan, said: “In response to the offer of improved pay and the introduction of a sick pay scheme, members have decided to defer the industrial action scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday 13th April). This improved offer is a direct result of the one-day stoppage on Monday, 4th April.” SIPTU Divisional Organiser Greg Ennis said: “The deferral of the planned industrial action will allow us consult with our members to establish what the next steps will be in our campaign for union recognition and further improvements in terms and conditions of employment. The industrial action taken to date has achieved improvements and the campaign will continue.”
