SIPTU Fire Fighter/Paramedic members met today with the Minister for Health, Simon Harris, to discuss the Dublin Fire Brigade's Emergency Medical Services (EMS). Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) personnel, supported by members of the public and communities, have over the last number of years been involved in a campaign to ensure that Dublin Fire Brigade continues to deliver the Ambulance Service in the city. SIPTU Public Administration Division Organiser, John King, said: “The meeting as business like and the DFB Fire Fighter / Paramedic representatives present were pleased to receive a commitment from the Minister to engage further on the issues and to recognise Dublin Fire Fighters as key stakeholders in the delivery of emergency ambulance services in Dublin.”DFB Section Chair John Mahon said: “The Minister recognised the proud tradition of our members in providing this critical life-saving service to the people of Dublin. He also expressed his continued support for the Fire Based EMS which Dublin Fire Brigade provides.”SIPTU Sector Organiser, Brendan O'Brien added: “In addition to the Minister's commitment to further engagement on these matters, I am pleased that he will include in his deliberations the findings of the Expert Panel established under the Joint Ambulance Forum. The recommendations of the panel address the issues raised in the recent HIQA report on the country’s ambulance services.”
