The SIPTU Galway District Council is hosting a special showing of the film ‘Pride’ in the union’s office in Galway City as part of the ‘Yes Equality’ campaign on Thursday,16th April, at 7.30 p.m.. Set in the summer of 1984 in the midst of the British miners strike the film is based on the true story of a group of LGBT activists as they rally together to support the workers. SIPTU Galway District Council secretary, Diane Jackson, said: “This film tells a heroic tale of a struggle which united activists striving for economic and social rights. It is a very appropriate story to inspire activists involved in the current campaign to secure a Yes vote in the upcoming marriage equality referendum.” All SIPTU members are invited to attend the event. A donation of €5 toward the ‘Yes Equality’ campaign is requested from those attending.
