Representatives of the SIPTU Louth District Committee have met with all their local TDs to present them with the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) budget proposals that are aimed at boosting growth in our economy and creating jobs. On Friday, 20th September, representatives from the SIPTU Louth District Committee met with Fianna Fáil TD, Seamus Kirk, and on Monday, 23rd September, they met with Fine Gael TD, Peter Fitzpatrick.On Friday, 27th September, the group met with Sinn Féin President and Louth TD, Gerry Adams.Louth District Committee chairperson, Seamie Briscoe, said: “All the meetings have been constructive. We had a good discussion, with a sharing of ideas and varying points of view.“We were very pleased with the level of engagement. The politicians said they would consider the ICTU proposals in detail and discuss them with their party colleagues."Earlier in September the SIPTU Louth District Committee met with Minister of State, Fergus O’Dowd, and Labour TD, Gerald Nash.The ICTU proposals include the Government implementing a fiscal consolidation of €2 billion, an investment stimulus of €4.5 billion over the next two years – financed in a manner that limits the cost to the taxpayer – and targeted tax increases for the highest earners.
