SIPTU representatives have met with management at the BD medical technology manufacturing plant in Drogheda, county Louth, to discuss an announcement that it intends to implement up to 60 job losses. SIPTU Organiser, Robbie Purfield, said: “Our members are extremely disappointed and concerned by the announcement by management that it is seeking up to 60 job losses at the plant which currently employs approximately 235 workers.    “Union representatives have put a number of suggestions to the company concerning how the number of job losses can be minimised. We are also seeking further clarity and information from management concerning its plans so we can formulate further proposals aimed at protecting jobs at the company.     “SIPTU workplace representatives have briefed all our members on the situation. We intend to conduct further meetings with our members and management this week.”   He added: “Our members have voiced dismay that some of them only found out about this announcement through the media following a press release by the company. We will continue to engage with management with the aim of ensuring good quality manufacturing jobs are maintained in Drogheda.”
