SIPTU members employed as in-field sales representatives by McCurrach Ltd will commence industrial action on Thursday, 16th November, in response to the company refusing to attend the Labour Court in relation to a pay claim. SIPTU Organiser, Colm Casserly, said: “The industrial action will involve workers not using any electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops, in connection with their work duties on 16th November. If the dispute is not resolved this industrial action will also be undertaken on Thursday, 23rd November, Friday, 24th November, Wednesday, 6th December, Thursday, 7th December and Friday, 8th December. “McCurrach UK Ltd is a Glasgow based agency company involved in serving large multi-nationals in the grocery retail trade. In the Republic of Ireland it is contracted by Nestle Ireland. “Our members in McCurrach were transferred from Nestle Ireland in 2013. For the past eight years they have not had a pay increase on their basic salary. They lodged a pay claim earlier this year. No progress was made on the issue at local level. Management eventually agreed to attend the Workplace Relations Commission. However, at this meeting, management stated that it was refusing the pay claim and announced it would not recognise SIPTU for collective bargaining purposes. Following this, it refused to attend the Labour Court on the matter.” He added: “This behaviour by McCurrach Ltd is contrary to our relationship with Nestle Ireland prior to our members commencing work with the agency under Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations. Since 2013, SIPTU representatives have been dealing with McCurrach Ltd on a regular basis on collective issues. “The decision by the company not to attend an institution of the state set up to resolve industrial relations issues has been the final straw for our members. Our members in McCurrach Ltd will not tolerate such a cavalier attitude by their employer to their concerns and to normal industrial relations procedures.”
