SIPTU members in Dublin Fire Brigade have called for all parties in the Dáil to support a Fianna Fáil private members’ motion which calls for the retention and adequate funding of their Fire-based Emergency Medical Service (EMS). SIPTU Sector Organiser, Brendan O’Brien, said: “Our members in Dublin Fire Brigade are calling for all Dáil parties and independent TDs to support an upcoming Fianna Fáil motion which calls for the retention of their Fire-based EMS and its proper funding. “In the coming days our members will be contacting the representatives of all political parties and independent TDs to ensure they are aware of this motion and will support it.”SIPTU DFB Convenor, Shane McGill, said: “DFB has been providing crucial ambulance services to the citizens of the city and north county for 120 years. The HSE has proposed to remove our ability to maintain a full Fire-based EMS service. “We believe this proposal could have a huge negative impact on the delivery of services from the DFB call centre. Our members support the Fianna Fáil motion’s call for the designing of a direct funding mechanism to allow DFB to continue to operate all areas of its Fire-based EMS service.”
