SIPTU members in Irish Society for Autism to protest over non-payment of increments

SIPTU members, working in the Irish Society for Autism (ISA), are set to hold a protest in Johnstown Bridge, County Kildare, next Monday (21st, May) to highlight their concerns over a management refusal to engage with their union over the non-payment of increments. SIPTU Organiser, John Hubbard, said: “SIPTU members are deeply frustrated with the ISA and the Health Service Executive (HSE). The management refusal to honour our members’ contacts of employment is unforgiveable. Our members feel they have no other option but to take this action. We are dealing with a management which is cancelling scheduled hearings at the Workplace Relations Commission and refusing to engage on this issue. “Our members took the decision to hold a protest in Johnstown Bridge on Monday, 21st May from 16:00 pm – 18:00 pm in order to make the community aware the treatment they are receiving from their employer and the HSE who fund the service.” He added: “SIPTU members in ISA are owed around €500,000 from the non-payment of their increments over the last number of years. On top of that, they have not been paid their 2018 increment due from the 1st April 2018. The employer has also failed to pay the last three months sleepover pay. We say enough is enough.” “SIPTU members in ISA are only seeking the money they are owed for the work they have done. For too long employers like the ISA and the HSE have treated similar Section 39 employees as second-class citizens and show little respect for their employment rights.”  “Our message to management is simple. Should this protest not resolve our members claims, the action will be stepped up to full scale industrial action.”
