SIPTU members at Irish Rail are to ballot on proposals which emerged from discussions with company management which concluded early today at the Labour Relations Commission (LRC). SIPTU Organiser, Paul Cullen, said that a meeting of the Rail Committee of SIPTU met today to discuss the proposals and agreed to put them to a full ballot of the 2,100 union members in Irish Rail.“The SIPTU Rail Committee examined the document issued by the LRC and we agreed we would put this to a ballot of the membership from 10th September for three weeks. During this period there will be a consultative process on the proposals with the members in Irish Rail,” he said.Following the LRC discussions, SIPTU representatives suspended two planned work stoppages by members in Irish Rail which were scheduled to take place on Sunday, 7th September and on Sunday, 21st September, in response to a unilateral cut to workers’ wages in late August. Following the LRC discussions the pay cuts have been suspended for the period of the ballot.
