SIPTU members in Bausch & Lomb have welcomed the announcement by its owners, Valeant, to invest €41 million in its Waterford facility over the next 18 months. According to SIPTU Assistant Organiser, Allen Dillon, the investment will support Bausch & Lomb's efforts to increase market share in the contact lens market and therefore help secure the future of the Waterford plant. He said: “The investment from Valeant in the Waterford plant follows the very difficult decision our members made last June when they voted by a huge majority to accept a significant restructuring. “The investment will allow the company to increase market share and vindicates the real sacrifices made by SIPTU members to secure the long term future of the plant.”
