The SIPTU Nursing and Midwifery Committee has this morning (Monday, 6th March) endorsed a set of Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) proposals aimed at assisting recruitment and retention of nursing staff in the public health service. SIPTU Health Division Organiser, Paul Bell, said: “We support the efforts of the WRC in ensuring that all parties succeeded in agreeing a set of proposals to deal with issues relating to recruitment and retention of nursing staff in our health service.” SIPTU Sector Organiser, Kevin Figgis, said: “We are confident these measures, in addition to those that emerge from the forthcoming report from the Public Service Pay Commission and the national pay talks scheduled to begin in May, will form the basis for the rebuilding of our nursing and midwifery workforce.”  The negotiations at the WRC involved nursing union representatives, the Health Service Executive, the Department of Health and the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
