SIPTU nursing and midwifery representatives have today (Thursday, 2nd March) accepted an invitation from the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) to attend talks aimed at addressing the outstanding issues in the sector. Nursing unions are in an ongoing dispute with the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Department of Health concerning the recruitment and retention of nurses and midwives. SIPTU Health Division Organiser, Paul Bell, said: “SIPTU nursing and midwifery representatives will attend talks under the auspices of the WRC. They will work as hard as possible to progress the discussions which broke off two weeks ago. The discussions will be challenging for all the parties involved and are under a degree of pressure as our colleagues in the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) are preparing for industrial action next Tuesday (7th March).”
