SIPTU representatives have welcomed an announcement today (Tuesday, 13th November) from Bausch and Lomb of significant investment and the expansion to its Waterford facility with 100 additional jobs set to be created. SIPTU Sector Organiser, Alan O’Leary, said: “This announcement is very positive news. These additional jobs are crucial to growing the local economy. Over the past number of years a cloud of uncertainty hung over the Waterford facility. Despite the trauma of major reorganisation,  the sacrifice and hard work of our members has paid off and led to a number of significant investment decisions at the Waterford site.” He added: “This latest jobs boost indicates a positive long term investment plan is being implemented by the company and it will provide some well-earned stability and job security for our members into the future.” SIPTU Organiser, Allen Dillon said: “This announcement is not only positive news for SIPTU members in Bausch and Lomb but in Waterford and the wider south east. We need more of these types of quality jobs that recognise unions and pay decent wages to workers.”
