SIPTU representatives in Bus Eireann have said that they will enter discussions with management at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) on the basis that any payroll or personnel changes at the company are achieved by agreement. In a letter to Bus Eireann today, SIPTU Sector Organiser, Willie Noone, said that the company, thus far, is “primarily engaged in trying to plan the timing of a dispute rather than resolving it”. He said that union members “can embrace and commit to improved efficiencies but only if payroll reductions come from agreement and not from any dictates.” “SIPTU is determined to protect take home pay and bring down payroll costs through efficiencies and to protect the terms and conditions of employment of staff.  Our members will continue to engage in efforts to maximise savings from all categories of employees, and not just drivers, as long as it includes management grades,” he said. He was responding to a letter from the company today which stated that it was willing to re-engage in negotiations at the WRC on the basis “that agreement can be reached that adequately addresses the financial crisis and avoids the risk of insolvency”.
